Screencasts

Screencasts

Now more than ever with the Coronavirus pandemic schools have been shut down. Distance learning has become the new normal for the time being. However, while teachers are having to create Google classrooms and connect students it is not always easy for them or their parents. Screencasts offer guidance on how to connect students and parents. In addition, it can be used to give instruction on almost anything on the computer screen while being anchor charts, videos, assignments, or any online resource. While at the moment our district is closed I couldn't access our school website to guide students on the use of the catalog system. However, what is most important at the moment is guiding students and parents on getting access to resources to continue learning while at the safety of their home. It was my first time utilizing any screencast resource however, let me share it is easy and convenient. I will continue to utilize now more than ever due to the circumstances. Below you will have access to my screencast that was created by introducing students and parents to the learning Hub created by our district and in addition to logging into Google classroom.

Snagit

Snagit has many features that entail adding, deleting, merging, highlight, and basically offer any customizable edit you can think of when creating a screencast which is an awesome experience. However, being new to creating and accessing it for the first time can be overwhelming. Compared to Screencast-o-matic it offers a complete screen option to record instead of just a small area. It does offer the download option for both Windows and Mac computers. In addition, it is a free version for the first 15 days. Compared to Screencast-o-matic I feel it works best for additional customizable features however, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Screencast-o-matic

While Screencast-o-Matic was my pick as the favorite because as a newbie it was easy and friendly to navigate and create a screencast. It offered a quick easy way to download and start using right away without leaving the user with many questions. While it does offer a limited number of screencasts for free and it lets you upload and save in different locations. However, they do offer to save and file it under your Screencast-o-matic account which makes it more convenient. In addition, for an upgrade in the plan, they charge $1.65 monthly which is affordable compared to other options. This was my favorite because I was able to record and guide students and parents on accessing Google classroom and our district online learning Hub for distance learning taking place.

Overall, being a new learner of screencasts, I chose Screencast-o-matic simply fact to its user friendly approach that allowed me any struggles. It allowed me to save it to my toolbar on Chrome and it offers a step by step approach from downloading, creating, saving, and uploading. This was an overall learning experience that will definitely come in very useful for students when creating lessons that can include Google slide and recording a step by step lesson, guiding them how to log in or use applications such as Flipgrid, Google classroom, navigating a library catalog system, or accessing any website that requires guidance and information.
