Final Reflection 5391
Final Reflection 5391
I knew this semester I would be learning a great deal of technology. I was a bit nervous however, I'm a quick learner, and if you show me the way I will become savvy quickly. However, this course was enriched with several great websites and applications that helped me grow in my profession as an educator and I carry with me as a future librarian. I really enjoyed that it was a hands-on course where I was able to learn, evaluate, and create projects with the many educational websites we encountered.
Exciting
The most exciting ones I feel were the Cartoon and Comics websites. They were the most fun because of the endless creativity than can be poured into each one of them and become a work of art. These were awesome resources that would be great to use from the Universal Design for Learning guidelines. Such as the engagement and action & expression parts. These resources help design learning opportunities for all. As long as you show them how to utilize and they will create their own products based on their knowledge.
Difficult
The website I found to be more difficult is Facebook and Twitter. I don't really like Facebook because I feel its too overwhelming with features and information. I've tried it many years ago when it first came out however, I never kept up with it. I really enjoy Instagram compared to Facebook. On the other hand, Twitter is okay. I like the simplicity and direct communication it entails. However, they are not difficult to access, create, and connect. I feel its more of a personal choice. These are some platforms that would be great to use for communication.
Most beneficial to students
I would say the most beneficial digital technology tools would be in my opinion anything that they can use to incorporate their knowledge by creating products. Such as Cartoon and Comic Strips or Podcasts. I feel if we give the right tools for them to share their knowledge through creativity we would be at the highest level of Bloom's taxonomy. This would also target the UDL because we are giving them the tools needed to express their knowledge through creativity. Podcasts can be created by mimicking an interviewing process would help for future life skills. In addition, role-playing like a radio station where you would be conducting an interview. The possibilities are endless. I feel that the most exposure the students have to resources especially digital tools that are the innovation of the world will create learning opportunities for all.
Digital StoryTelling
Article Reflection
After reading the short article on Jen Hatmaker, I believe that we should always listen to the school community's needs and start from there. As it is stated that a library media collection has to be based on the community's needs where we evaluate, modify, and implement resources needed to meet those sources. It is important to listen to the students, teachers, administrators, and community needes and start by incorporating what is truly deficient in sources. However, since technology is universal and teaching the community how it is worked and providing the tools needed for them to channel their inner creativity would provide ultimately the guidelines of the Universal Design for Learning that will produce learning opportunities for all. Having the resources available, educating the adequate training will lead to success overall.
