Podcasts


Podcasts are very informational sources that can used as a way to communicate information that pertains to the school library or it can be utilized by students to vocalize their ideas and share them throughout this media. Students from upper-grade levels can create their own podcasts about stories they have read and share it with the teacher. In addition, they can look-up different podcasts and listen to some informational topics and discuss it with the class as a presentation or in a group can be used as different point of view discussions. The possibilities are endless. However, for the lower-grade levels teachers can create podcasts and the students can listen to them. On the librarian's perspective, podcasts can be used to expose students to this auditorial platform that is enriched with diverse content. It might not be for all students however, it can be offered as differentiation among students who are intrigued with this style of learning. 

SoundCloud is a platform that offers unlimited tracks for offline listening. This website offers a 7 day or 30 day free trial however, thereafter it would be a fee of $4.99 or $9.99 monthly. This platform is geared more towards a musical audience where it lets you choose musical content and build playlists. SoundCloud is a platform where many starting artists start their careers and it states that the paid subscriptions help them.

PodBean has been my go to Podcast creator and user. It is user-friendly and it entails up to 5 hours of storage space for free. It does offer upgrades for more storage and even get paid for your podcasts with the premium plan. The different plans range from $29 to $99 monthly. However, this podcast website can be for first time podcast creators to professionals who want to get monetized for their content. I really enjoy the simple steps it takes to record and share your content easily. I will continue to use this website and introduce it to my students as an option. 
Podcasts that are educational and family-friendly for kids and children Adventure of the Month- Kids and Children it tailors to reading read-aloud for kids. The Purple Rocket Podcast is another option for younger kids to enjoy. Write the Book: Conversations on Craft this podcast is geared towards an older crowd however, it details information with real authors. 

Garageband is a free podcast creator with the ability to incorporate music and edit to your liking. It is user-friendly and its free for Mac users. However, it can be time consuming with all the different options it offers. It has the ability to record your podcast and enhance it with instrumental music or sound effects along with customizing the volumes and many different options of making them high pitch or low whisper sounds. One disadvantages is that it is only offered to Mac users so it is not available with other computer softwares.
